Handcrafted Leather
Design
Ghillie dhu leather is based in
Angus Scotland and produces pieces of leather art you can use
and wear. Each leather item is individually designed and handmade,
creating a unique piece that continually develops its own character
with every day use, as the leather breaks in and becomes more
supple.
Construction
I design and cut each leather item
from high quality vegetable-tan cowhide and coloured suede to
ensure strength and durability. After cutting, I hand carve and
dye the leather, apply any fixings and fasteners, then finally
I hand stitch or lace each piece. All stages of the work is handmade
with only small hand tools being used, this ensures each leather
item is an individual, and can be created to your exact requirements.
Products
Products range from small suede
and leather pouches, leather handbags and hand carved kilt belts
to larger leather handbags and motorcycle luggage. Commissions
are welcome.
The Artist - Adrienne
As a Fine Art graduate I developed
an enthusiasm for leather as it combines beauty with utility and
the natural scarring and irregularities can prove unpredictable.
Working in a natural medium is absorbing each piece as exciting
as the first, the variable nature of leather can perhaps be compared
to the grain of wood, each area having its own matchless pattern.
Inspiration for the leather handbags is initially drawn from the
raw appearance of historical leather wear with its simplicity
and invaluable quality, and I then incorporate these influences
with ideas from today's fashions to create an individual style.
